Intestinal fistula after magnets ingestion

چکیده
Accidental ingestion of magnetic foreign bodies has become more common due to increased availability of objects and toys with magnetic elements. The majority of them traverse the gastrointestinal system spontaneously without complication. However, ingestion of multiple magnets may require surgical resolution. The case of an 18-month girl who developed an intestinal fistula after ingestion of two magnets is reported.

INTRODUCTION Magnet ingestion usually does not cause serious complications, but in case of multiple magnet ingestion or ingestion of magnet with other metal it could cause intestinal obstruction, fistula formation or even perforation. CASE REPORT We report case of intestinal obstruction and fistula formation following ingestion of 25 magnets in a 2-year-old girl. Intraoperatively omega shaped...

We describe the case of a 19-year-old mentally challenged woman who developed jejuno-jejunal fistula following ingestion of a magnetic necklace. This case report demonstrates the necessity of prompt treatment when the ingested intestinal foreign body is suspected to be multiple magnets, even if there are no sharp edges; and even when it seems the object could be evacuated spontaneously. Ingeste...

The ingestion of foreign bodies is a comprehensive problem affecting the pediatric population, especially under 5 years of age. The ingestion of 2 or more magnets may lead to their attraction over planes of intervening soft tissue with enough force to cause significant complications including obstruction, fistula formation or even perforation. This case series report have documented the cases o...

Accidental ingestion of foreign bodies and its management is a common problem seen more in the pediatric population than in adults. A review of the literature suggests that endoscopic removal of foreign bodies is curative for objects located in the cricopharynx or upper esophagus. Foreign bodies passed into the stomach can usually be observed for development of symptoms, because 80% of them wou...

common clinical situation, the case of single or multiple magnet ingestion is rare (1-8). An ingested small magnet with a smooth margin tends to be evacuated spontaneously (1, 5). However, when multiple magnets are ingested and they are separated into groups, they may lie in adjacent bowel loops within the range of each other’s magnetic force, and so they attract each other across the bowel wal...
